My.COOP App
Making the toolkit mobile accessible
Quality
The My.COOP toolkit offers 15 mobile learning methods for trainers to use in rural Africa, in combination with face-to-face training. The training aims to strengthen the management of agricultural cooperatives so that they can offer high quality, efficient and effective services to their members.
The toolkit is available online, and the my.COOP app is currently being developed, to make the toolkit easily accessible from a mobile device.
The objective of the training program is to expose (existing and potential) managers of agricultural cooperatives to key management issues that are specific to cooperative enterprises in the agricultural sector. This is achieved by the training of trainers to deliver content more effectively and engagingly.
Relevance
Mobile phones are very widespread throughout Africa, including in rural areas, where they are an important tool for communication and competitiveness. Mobiles can reach places where there is no internet access, and can be used without a computer.
The my.COOP toolkit gives trainers 15 methods that utilise this ubiquitous device, to complement face to face learning, and create long-lasting channels of communication between trainers and students.
The mobile learning toolkit is an open source resource that supports the delivery of all kinds of training in many contexts. It has been designed to be as inclusive as possible, with most of the methods requiring only low end devices (basic mobile phones with voice calling and SMS capability).

Impact
The mobile learning toolkit aims to impact people’s ability to develop knowledge or skills through engaging with learning materials in any environment or location, and extending the learning experience beyond the classroom.
The My.COOP mobile app supports these aims by making the My.COOP training package accessible via mobile-optimised web. This development ensures the package is as open, innovative and accessible as possible.
With the app, it will now be possible for participants in rural areas to contribute to the My.COOP forums and access My.COOP materials through a mobile device. The app complements the efforts of the My.COOP mobile learning toolkit to make learning about the management of agricultural cooperatives as mobile as possible.
