Mobile business cards

Taking knowledge with you

Quality

Mobile business cards are handy USB storage devices, the size and shape of a business card. They each store a copy of an ITC-ILO toolkit, which can be used by any device which is able to read a USB card (such as desk and notebook computers and some tablets). The attractive cards are easy to create, produce, disseminate and store – needing just a space in a wallet or business card holder. Mobile business cards eliminate the need to carry printed booklets, and extend access to knowledge to people without an internet connection.

Relevance

Mobile learning means being able to access knowledge in the places, timeframes and ways that suit people. It is not limited to learning over the internet, or via SMS. This access has been improved by ITC-ILO’s development of learning resources which can be stored on mobile USB “business cards”.

Impact

Several toolkits are already available on mobile business cards, and they have proven to be highly popular with ITC-ILO staff members, who value the ability to transport an entire toolkit in their pocket.

1. Share, Learn and Innovate (in collaboration with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights)

A toolkit of methods and techniques to enhance knowledge sharing within OHCHR and through OHCHR activities. The toolkit was produced with Articulate. It is available online or with the mobile business card.

2. The Trade Facilitation Implementation Guide (in collaboration with The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe)

Helps identify, examine and select available solutions and possible paths for policy objectives when implementing trade-facilitation reform.

A lot of trade facilitation implementation professionals are not always connected to the internet when travelling, or in rural areas. The mobile card offers access anytime, anywhere to valuable documents, tools, policies and instruments

3. Multi-Hazard Business Continuity Management training toolkit (in collaboration with the International Labour Organization, department ILO Crisis).

This training package is targeted to small and medium sized enterprises who have been affected by hazards. Usually infrastructure is damaged and there is no internet availability. The mobile business card ensures that the training toolkit and materials are always accessible.
