Accessing mobile knowledge

When and how it's wanted

Quality

In the last 4 years the DELTA unit has been monitoring the wide landscape of mobile learning. As mobile learning methods become more sophisticated, we see many promising areas of implementation, where mobile tools can be used to disseminate the ITC-ILO’s expertise and knowledge in ways that are more engaging, effective and far-reaching than ever. Through the implementation of web and mobile based tools, ITC-ILO expertise can now reach many more people, making knowledge available in formats that they are used to and enjoy using, and providing information when, where and how they can benefit from it most.

Relevance

Throughout the UN organisation, mobile learning methods are taking root: the UN Foundation published M-Health; UNICEF shared its mobile for development booklet; UNESCO events have focused on policies for mobile learning.

Now, the ITC-ILO is looking at how mobile learning tools can impact our outcomes as well, through the introduction of strategic mobile toolkits that share our knowledge, and make it easier for others to share it in their turn.

Impact

ITC-ILO are implementing a wide range of mobile learning methods, such as launching mobile blogposts and publishing a mobile learning toolkit for specific capacity development projects (see links below).

In order to develop a state-of-the-art mobile learning strategy, we invited recognised international mobile learning experts to jointly express a vision for mobile learning (see link below).

The new toolkit initiative is a practical translation of how mobiles can add pedagogical added value to the learning process.
